At a growing company like Matillion, you get to experience a lot of great firsts. Of course, there was our first sale of Matillion ETL. We also remember our first round of funding. Last year, we became a TrustRadius TopRated vendor for the first time. Earlier this year, we celebrated the launch of our first SaaS product, Matillion Data Loader.
But this week marked a huge first for us, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Matillion was recognized on the 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools for the first time.
For many businesses in the market for data technology, the Gartner Magic Quadrant needs no introduction. It’s one of the pre-eminent market research reports in the world. Gartner evaluates vendors for the Gartner Magic Quadrant based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. We are one of 20 companies that are acknowledged in the 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration. We are honored to be selected and humbled to be in such good company.
In the 2020 Gartner Magic Quadrant Report, Gartner defines data integration as “a discipline comprising the practices, architectural techniques and tools that allow organizations to ingest, transform, combine and provision data across the spectrum of data types.”1 It’s a big tent, and encompasses a wide variety of use cases, including ETL (our specialty), master data management, and data sharing between enterprises.
The report also points out that “The data integration tool market is seeing renewed momentum driven by urgent requirements for hybrid/ multicloud data management, augmented data integration and data fabric designs.”1 We agree, which is why Matillion ETL supports multiple cloud data warehouses and platforms for businesses living in a multi-cloud environment.
Some companies on the list cover the full spectrum of data integration use cases as broad solutions. At Matillion, we focus on doing one thing–cloud-based ELT–very well, helping our customers and partners move faster and derive better insight from a full range of data sources. What’s more, we focus on doing it in a way that we believe plays well with some of our friends and partners who are also recognized as Niche Players on the Gartner report, like HVR. Our collective presence in this select group is further validation that cloud-first and cloud-only products are gaining traction in a sea of robust, traditional tools. And with the increase in remote workforces and global demand for always-on data platforms, we only see that continuing to increase in the future.
Matillion was recognized for many of what we feel are product capabilities, including migratable business logic, high-availability clustering, multi-cloud data movement, and a full-spectrum business solution between Matillion ETL and Matillion Data Loader.
As encouraging as that is to hear from external reviewers, our favorite kudos still come from our customers, who we believe validate many of Gartner’s observations. For example:

To us, this kind of positive feedback is the best indicator that we’re doing something right. And we will continue to listen to our customers and their input, especially the constructive comments, so we can continue to make our products better and grow our capabilities. By doing so, we can work to ensure that this year on the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools will be the first of many.
